Award season is my FAVORITE and while I watch almost all the award shows, the Academy Awards are by far the best! Even though I’ve watch very few (ok, none) of the nominated films, I’m still going to host my annual Oscar party and it’s going to be so much fun. Aside from the great food (more about that below), I always design a ballot for everyone to cast their vote for who will win in each category and a bingo card to add even more fun to the evening. I put the ballot, bingo card, gold star stickers for the bingo card, and a fun pen (I taped a feather to a regular pen using some fancy glitter tape) into these adorable striped bags (similar bag) for each girl.
Are you like me and haven’t watched many of the movies (I haven’t been to a movie theatre since before I had my little one)? I’ll be using this New Yorker article to help fill out my ballot – I won’t tell if you don’t ;). The winner gets yummy Sugarfina candy, so I don’t want to lose.
On the Menu
My only requirement for the menu is that everything has to be small bite finger food. We spend the evening lounging on the couch and everyone already has to balance a plate on their lap so I want to make the food easy enough that utensils aren’t required. This year I opted to take a fun twist on simple comfort food. Here’s what I’m making:
Tomato Soup (in shot glasses) topped with a mini Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Mini Chicken & Waffles
Caesar Salad in an Endive Leaf
Bacon Wrapped Dates
Spinach Dip in Wonton Cups
Popcorn Bar (using Popcornopolis Zebra, Red Velvet, & Kettle Corn)
Mini Chocolate Cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream
Ugh…this is making me hungry! I always suggest that people come in comfy clothes (stretchy pants are completely acceptable) so they can eat without being uncomfortable.
